Udzungwa mountains are the most extensive mountain range with altitudes of 820 feet to 6,520 feet known as the Eastern Arc Mountains, formed at least 100 million years back. It holds dozen enormous forest mountains that rise impressively from eastern Tanzania, boarded by the Great Ruaha River to the north, with Mikumi National Park and Selous Game Reserve located further to the north and east.

The major attractions are its biologically diverse forest, harbouring some plant species found nowhere else in the world. In addition, the plateau is also inhabited by elephants, buffaloes, lions and leopards. However, they usually occur in the less accusable areas hence visitors should not, however, expect to see these larger species.
